Eye of the storm

I’m pretty stoked I managed a blog post in between! I know it sounds rather lazy, but I promise I have a very good reason (or reasons actually). On wednesday the new fair starts and I’m not even half as ready as I wanted to be (classic me). It’s tax month and I’m not done yet (still have 1 day left), It was my nephews birthday and we had a halloween party (Melina went dressed as a pirate, thank you old newspapers!), also, daylight savings time. It’s probably safe to say that everyone who has kids shares the same distaste for daylight savings. At least, my facebook wall is filled with passive agressive complaints haha πŸ™‚ Everything happens an hour earlier.. So I’m still turning my lights on an hour earlier, it’s like nothing has changed except I’m half dead πŸ˜› Can’t we just cancel this nonsense already..? /rant. Let’s move on! There’s knitting to be discussed!

Gotta love these tiny baby seats. Don’t worry, max 5 minutes at a time, but it’s so adorable to see how she sticks out her feet like this hahaha

So I cast on for a Sunset Highway sweater using 4 of our own sockstravagance yarns πŸ™‚ I’m totally loving the low contrast, gentle look on this yoke and it’s turning out to be so soft! I really love working on this project, except I accidentally left it at the shop on friday.. πŸ™

One of the coolest things about stranded knitting is the backside. I love looking at it πŸ™‚ It’s super magical!

The good news about forgetting my latest go-to knitting project is that I end up working on things I haven’t had the time to knit in a while. Sorry for the phone quality pictures, but at the moment I have to take whatever opportunity I get for photoshoots as the light fades quickly and time fades even quicker πŸ˜›

Can you see it?! I’m paying a lot more attention to the whole thing so I’m happy to say the stitches are coming out a lot more evenly spaced. I hadn’t knit any intarsia projects in a long while and theΒ  yarn is actually a bit too slippery for my intarsia tastes, but what are you going to do. The colors are fantastic for pikachu so let’s just get on with it πŸ™‚

In other knitting news: I’ve been making some more swatches lately πŸ™‚ We added five more yarns to the shop and I’m loving them already. I’m knitting this swatch with 6mm needles, even though the wrapper on the yarn states 4mm. I haven’t washed the swatch yet, but I thought the yarn needed a bit more space than with 4mm needles.

I was so happy with the swatch I decided to try knitting a baby sweater. The owlet to be precise. I’ve been eyeing this sweater for a loong long time and I finally felt I found the yarn to knit it with. I’ve already finished my first ball of 25 grams, and I’m more than halfway done (this is an older picture). I believe I can knit this sweater with just 2 balls of Rico Fashion Alpaca Dream DK! That’s just 50 grams of yarn <3

If you look closely you can see why it’s such an airy, lofty yarn. The structure is chainette, which means that there’s a lot of trapped air inside. I’m actually surprised at the yardage/ meterage on these balls! So light! <3

I don’t have knitted samples of all the yarns just yet, one at a time πŸ™‚ The DK version is lightweight and super fluffy and comes in 25 gram balls (105m), the bigger version (Rico Alpaca Dream) is advised for 8mm needles. The one on the left is a supersoft single yarn advised for 10mm needles.

These two I’ve knit with πŸ™‚ The alpaca blend chunky has been knit into the Presto Chango baby sweater, and the soft wool aran is being knit into the Fuse Cardigan.

I love how fluffy they all look! Ready for winter baby! πŸ˜€

In other knitting news I’ve finished my secret whirl project and I’m having it test knitted πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to show you some more pictures, but I have to wait until it’s tested, also: washed and blocked haha

In other photoshoot news: we have tiny baby knits! Sooooon πŸ™‚ So many exciting things happening at once!

And then this happened! CAN YOU SEE IT?! IT’S THE POT OF GOLD!!! πŸ˜€

In between all the knitting, the rainbows, the fluff, the fairs and whatnot, DH gifted me something awesome! I love to cook, but there’s one thing I love most of all and that’s making fresh, homemade pasta. YUM YUM! I bought a simple pasta machine and ever since I learned to use it I’ve made fresh pasta and recently I’ve been interested in learning more about making different types. So DH bought me a book about all sorts of pasta, a huge, amazing pasta kit and a ravioliera (it’s a sheet with indents and a roller so you can make ravioli!)

I love this man. He’s a keeper. And he’s smart because he’ll be eating LOTS and LOOOTS of yummy, delicious, different types of pasta! <3

And then there’s this ❀
