wip’s and happenings
After a long time of doubting and overcoming my initial fears I finally cast on the Shipwreck Shawl I saw in Knitty! To experienced knitters it might seem like a simple shawl, but for me it was intimidating. I’ve knit simple things like uhm.. sweatbands and simple rectangular scarves… I’m not even counting those because I don’t consider that to be ‘real knitting’ since I did those when I was a kid. I just sat next to my mom and started knitting long rectangles in plain stockinette… I even have proof of that when I look through my mom’s stash.. there’s meters and meters of plain stockinette pieces in there which my mom never frogged. Sentimental value I think…
So to get back to the story: I was intimidated because I’ve always wanted to knit lace because <drool>it’s so incredibly cool that one long piece of thread and two sticks can make something so delicate and beautiful!</drool>
Anyways, I cast on and was totally shocked at how simple it actually is…. the cast-on method is explained very clearly and the pattern is just fantastic
I’m searching for some nice 2/2.5mm seed beads right now for section 7 and can’t wait for this one to be blocked and wrapped around me xD
This is going to be a long post since I’ve got a lot of free time on my hands in the summer vacation and there’s a lot of knitting going on
I ordered another hank of malabrigo sock in terracotta despite my budgetary problems (who needs food anyway lol) and decided it would become an arisaig for sure
Tho I must say I can’t decide yet if I want to do it with shorter sleeves (like the one in here) or the original on Knitty by designer: Ysolda. Thankfully I don’t have to decide what to do yet, I’ll probably do the sleeves last anyway..
There’s however one problem I’m facing right now.. I have one set of 2.0mm needles and two projects to knit.. I could knit the Anne Elliot Spencer with the 1.5mm needles and the arisaig with the 2, but I’d have to make a swatch first. I kind liked the 2.0mm swatch, but maybe it’ll look even better on smaller needles… I’ve got enough yarn in my stash to make two so that’s not the problem.. the problem is however knitting the spencer with frikkin’ 1,5mm needles…. -_-’ what the hell.. it’ll make a ‘short’ project into this huuuge thing… *sigh*
I’d like to finish this post with a happy picture of my dad. A few days ago we celebrated his birthday and since he doesn’t like to get any presents for his birthday we decided to bake him a mercedes cake. My dad owns this (nearly) classic old mercedes and he totally loves his car, so we made him a copy of his car.. w00t
it was a lot of fun for to do but the smile on his face made the whole thing completely worth it
