UGO: Unnamed Growing Object

To quote Hannibal from the A-Team: “I love it when a plan comes together!”

I’m still on the experimental train towards learning to organize my own patterns, or how to calculate the form of a sweater, changing it and then adding or removing things I like/ don’t like. So I told you about the unnamed right.. well.. it’s growing šŸ˜€ And so far no growing pains in sight šŸ˜€

The yarn used is cheapo sockyarn from the local lidl and I have 12 skeins of 50gr/ 210m, which should be enough for a long sleeved sweater I reckon. Though it felt rough at first the yarn isn’t half that bad and it’s actually quite nice when knit šŸ™‚ I’m almost at the part where the sleeves get separated, only 14 rounds more to go and I’ll be working on the body. So far the Japanese feather and fan panel is working out just fine so I’m fairly pleased šŸ™‚ Though it might not be really visible yet I’m still posting some pictures šŸ˜€

unnamed 1.0

I must say I really do like variegated yarns šŸ˜€ In this sweater they really make the pattern I think, because of the wide stitches on the top and the raglan shape of the body where the stitches have a different orientation šŸ˜€

Yarn:Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Drops Alpaca
Size:Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  3.0mm needles

I love this pattern and I really like how it turned out šŸ™‚ It’s a very airy shawl and it’s nice and soft and probably very warm. But you see I didn’t make this for myself, but I can’t say for who it is yet since they might read this blog and find out. I hope to have a picture of the owner wearing the shawl soon šŸ™‚

This shawl was the first FO to be blocked with my new blocking kit and I’m loving the results. The edges aren’t completely smooth yet but they’ll probably smoothen out once the shawl gets to be worn šŸ™‚ I also got this in the package:

Drops Silke Tweed

Five skeins of drops silke tweed šŸ˜€ It has to wait its turn but I already know what this is going to become šŸ˜‰

For the past.. I can’t remember how long, my brother’s been telling me to watch an episode of Naruto, one of his (if not THE) favorite anime series out there. Since he got me addicted to Haruhi last time and I had to delete it from my hard drive to free myself (I was failing classes people come on..) I’ve been trying to avoid him (lol).

But I guess you really can run from things for so long and so I watched the first episode of Naruto with him. My brother was happy but my spidey senses tingled…. the episode of Naruto had done something…. it reminded me of how much I used to like drawing manga and how much I actually missed drawing stuff… or in this case… airbrushing :O

I told my brother I wanted to airbrush his favorite character on the back of his shirt and he came up with this guy named Jiraya. Obviously it’s not my design and since it’s nothing commercial I didn’t mind but I’d still like to link to where I found the design (since I don’t know who’s design it is either).

I haven’t done this in a while and I liked it so much I rearanged my desk again to fit my airbrushing needs šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

it started out with a little black shirt (and yea I now… I need a better set up haha)

sketches had to be made, masks had to be cut out šŸ™‚

the most important shapes were blocked out šŸ™‚

and then the masks could be peeled off. I do realize it really looks crappy and that’s why I didn’t really want to show these pictures, but hey, I’ll fix it up šŸ˜‰

and here’s where I left it. Last time I wanted to finish it in the same day and I got a little impatient. But now its different. I stopped and I will pick it up tomorrow or maybe the day after. After the shapes are blocked out the masked areas will be filled in. Then the transparant colors will be sprayed layer by layer until the image is done šŸ™‚ (and obviously the borders won’t stay like the crisp lines they are now šŸ˜‰

hope to have more pics later on šŸ™‚

unnamed 1.0

This is a good week. I’m feeling a little sick but I’m feeling more ‘alive’ somehow than I’ve felt in a few weeks. I’ve had a meeting with my tutor and I feel like I can take on the world again so all is good in lililand šŸ˜€

Commelina is finished and I’ve managed to move on to my next project in line, which apparated (sorry I’ve been listening to Harry Potter audiobooks while knitting, and yes I’m a dork :D) in my head while working on the last rows of commelina. I hope I’ll receive my blocking set somewhere tomorrow because I’ve already received an email that it’s sent so let’s keep our fingers crossed šŸ˜€

The ‘pattern’ is actually not really a pattern but something I saw on a blog and a lace pattern I liked somewhere on the internets and then found on ravelry and somehow they combined in my mind into something I liked. Its not a pattern, but a combination of how I think this particular sweater could be knit and the lace pattern on the back. I found the sweater on this blog, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere else. I got the impression it was from a shop since I couldn’t find the sweater anywhere else I decided I would knit something like it in a way I thought I could knit it. So I made myself a little swatch and a little ‘pattern’ and I cast on.

I used the sockyarn (I have 2.520m) on 3.0mm needles and I already like the way its turning out šŸ™‚

Above you see the little sketches that is supposed to become my unnamed 1.0 sweater. The whole sweater will be very simple except for the ends of the sleeves, a very loose cowl and the snake like feather and fan panel in the back. So before I started I made a swatch for the lace panel but now I see I fudged the pattern so I’ll have to make another one. I’m also not sure about the YO’sĀ  so I’ll try M1’s to see if that’s better or not šŸ™‚

Though I really really like the yarn (overall I really like sockyarn), it’s a little rough on my poor yarn-finger while knitting, and after a while it leaves a red mark šŸ˜› But the knit fabric itself is nice and soft and I think a little dip in some nice fabric softener wouldn’t hurt it much šŸ™‚ The yarn consists of 75% superwash wool and 25% polyamide (?) so the good thing is I can wash it in the machine šŸ™‚ But the very best thing of it all was that it was supercheap šŸ˜€ (it’s from the lidl and I’m really really bummed they don’t have anymore… šŸ™ )

Anyway, theres a little side project I’m working on as well but I’ll tell you more about it on another day. It’s not finished and I don’t have the pictures now šŸ™‚

just in time

Today, after a delay of a month or two, fall kicked in and so it’s been raining non-stop since yesterday evening and I must say I’m loving it. When I was younger I used to hate fall and winter because of the cold and the rain and I couldn’t really play outside much, but nowadays I don’t really mind. I’ve started to see the other side of these seasons. Or maybe it’s because I don’t cycle to school anymore and am ‘doomed’ to spend every day in front of my computer hehe.

Rain is cozy, a walk in the woods in fall is wonderfull, last winter was my alltime favorite winter in Holland. It was freakin cold, (-18C) which has become rather unnatural, and everything was frozen. It was like walking in the winter wonderland of Narnia and I felt like a little fairy pricess (teehee). We went ice skating (tho I totally suck) and had a blast. So I guess this is how my views on winter and fall changed over the years šŸ™‚

So back to the story.. I seem to have drifted off (again). Until yesterday the sun was shining and the weather was nice, cozy and warmish, but since today it’s really fall, so it rains and the wind blows and its cold and well.. it’s fall. So I might just be in time finishing Commelina! I already told you I ordered a blocking kit from Wolhemel so I’m hoping it’ll arrive in the end of this week and then I should be able to was and block it by then šŸ™‚

Commelina wip

In order to protect my knits from the cats I have to roll everything up in a ball and hide the needles, and as you can see it’s become a nice package already šŸ™‚

I ‘borrowed’ my kittens’ scratching pole to take this shot šŸ™‚ I seriously can’t wait for this shawl to be finished šŸ˜€

Future plans

Today is a happy day for me. My blog is 10Ā  months old and has reached the 1000th post today šŸ˜€ When I started this blog in januari I hoped people would read my blog but didn’t expect anyone to actually visit hehe šŸ™‚ So I’m having a good day hehe.

I might not have mentioned but the Commelina is actually also a destashing project. A while ago I received a huge amount of yarn from my grandmother because she stopped knitting. The thing is dat I haven’t been exactly sure what do to with the yarn and just put it in a bag in my closet. In the mean time some other exchanges have occurred and my stash has grown out of my closet (I have a small closet.. I’m a poor student lol). So the thing is I didn’t want to buy anymore yarn until finished a few destashing project. Obviously I haven’t kept my word and I already ordered four skeins of Drops Silke-Tweed from Wolhemel… *sigh*

garnstudio's yarn

To go back to the story: Commelina is being knit with the three first alpaca skeins I bought when I first started out knitting. The yarn is supersoft and the color is just radiant šŸ˜€

But besides the alpaca commelina project there’s more in the planning. I’m going to try to finish my modified CPH first since it’s getting cold and I’d like to wear it while knitting šŸ˜€ Then I’d like to focus on this yarn:

yarn balls

I still have a huge amount left so it should be enough for the truffle cardigan. I know the yarn is a little scratchy at first but I’m not intending to wear this cardigan without any shirts underneath. If it’s really horrible I might sew something soft on the inside.

For the Drops Silke Tweed I have other plans. I saw this pattern on Ravelry/ knitty and fell in love with it. Tho I do think I’ll have to make some minor andjustments (since I’m not a fan of bobbles but do ‘sorta’ like them on this pattern). Here’s Mangyle.

Anyway, I hope to finish commelina this week and I’ve already ordered a nice blocking set from Wolhemel so I can’t wait until I can properly block something without riksing insanity hihi šŸ™‚

Total makeover

Hello and welcome to the ‘new’ blog. Over time we change and our look on things change as well, the look of the blog is certainly one of those things. The old layout seemed too cluttered and chaotic so I checked out everything I could find but couldn’t decide on any of them. This one, Mystique, was exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t even have to change anything, it’s the perfect theme imho. Its bubbliness and happy colors are contagious šŸ˜€

I’m not sure if this will work for everyone or just the administrator but when you move your mouse to the top right of the blog (the black area) two buttons appear. The left one is to increase the text size and the right one is to make the blog more wide. This way you can adjust your own view šŸ™‚ I didn’t know about this function but obviously it’s fantastic. One of the reasons I had so much trouble finding a good theme is because I work on a 24″ monitor and I always see a very small blog and a LOT of background… very annoying… šŸ˜›

I don’t seem to have access to my laptop…. šŸ˜›

The kittens are growing and becoming more and more interested in the colorful yarns that dance around in the living room. They’ve already gotten to one of my favorite 4.0mm bamboo short needles and I’ve been using some sanding paper to get it smooth enough but I might need to use some clear coat to get it really functional again. This here box was given to me by my mother-in-law, and the crafting geek in me awoke. I printed out an A4 with a very pretty Zelda picture I found on the internet. I removed the colors, pasted it on the box and covered it all with a layer of gesso. When I have some time on my hands I’m planning to use some watercolor to give it a nice old look šŸ˜€ I wanted something inspiring for my knitting work šŸ™‚

It looks a bit messy but that’s because of the gesso, but for now it’s the inside that counts šŸ™‚

A little progress update on the mystery project. Obviously the progress bar sais it’s called ‘Commelina’ but that’s not the secret/ mystery part šŸ˜‰

These last pictures are the yarns that still don’t know what they want to be when they grow up šŸ™‚ The two right pictues are proof of the growing kittens and the rescue kit that saved my half knawed on bamboo knitting needle šŸ™‚

evolution of blogger

In it’s short life this blog has known many different appearances and different names. This is all proof of your bloggers evolution process.

This short post is only here to let you know that things are going to change for the better and tho it might take some time, I’ll be back and better šŸ™‚

And it’s already time for another round of Stewie’s Sexy Party! Though you might not remember the first one (since it was named different) but it’s still the same basic idea. The SSP happens every now and then when your ever-active-in-real-life blogger has updates she would like to show you but couldn’t do it earlier because things were evolving so quickly.

Take a look at the lacy mitts posts for instance, I have three posts with near-identical pictures but different stories.. that’s just boring… šŸ˜› but a lot has happened and a lot of knitting and frogging has actually occurred between the near-identical posts, but this is something I can’t really show because my posting can’t keep up with the knitting/ frogging action. And meanwhile I’ve finished the knit and moved on to another knit and in between the knitting and frogging I’ve managed to block another recently finished object.

And so the SSP came to life. A Sexy Party where all the FO’s can be showed off šŸ™‚

So here’s the first partymember

Lacy mitts FO

I may not have mentioned it before but I’m only making one handwarmer. The whole reason I made this knit was because I work with the computer a lot and my right (mouse) arm gets all cold and painfull so now I hope I won’t have this problem anymore šŸ™‚ I still have to block it tho and I think I’ll need a little elastic in the end to keep it up, it’s nice and snug at first but after a while it loosens up and then it starts sagging off my arm…… šŸ˜›

balsam revisitedbalsam revisitedbalsam revisited

Here’s the second balsam compared to the first balsam. The first balsam (right) was too tight around my head so I knit the second one with one needle size all the way, and now you can see that after blocking the top and the bottom are wider than the first one. I do think it’s much more comfortable than the first one, tho I’d still like to make another one to see how it turns out šŸ™‚

There’s also a little mystery project, the people from the curiosity thread on rav will know what this is, but for the rest of you I’d like to keep it a little secret for a little while longer šŸ˜‰
